The new NHS model is a simplified version of the current NHS model. The Scottish Government have reduced the number of available dental treatments from 400, down to 45 treatments, which will hopefully make it much easier for our patients to understand. The new NHS model aims to ensure that our dental practice can continue to provide high quality NHS dental care for our patients at the highest clinical standard. We will still be able to remove tartar/calculus build up during an NHS scaling but we will no longer be able to polish your teeth and remove stains at the end of an NHS scaling. We are also no longer able to guarantee that you will see a Dental Therapist for your NHS scaling. NHS scaling’s will now be carried out during your exam appointment by one of our Dentist’s. IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE? If you wish to see our Dental Therapist for your hygiene appointments, or if you wish for us to still polish your teeth and remove any staining, we will be offering AIRFLOW® as an alternative oral hygiene treatment option. AIRFLOW® uses a fine jet of compressed air, warm water and fine powder to remove tartar, plaque/biofilm build up and staining, giving a gentle yet more efficient way... --- Vivera Retainers Vivera retainers are virtually invisible. They’re much stronger than the usual style of retainers (Essix retainers) and because they’re thinner, they’re also much comfier to wear, and way less noticeable! And because we have invested in the latest technology, you don’t need to worry about messy impressions – we can scan simply scan your teeth using our top of the range iTero scanner in under 2 minutes! We recommend that our patients wear their retainers full time for the first 7 months, and then night time for the rest of their lives. We know that many orthodontists recommend only wearing the retainers for a year, but we recommend that you wear them every night to make sure your beautiful new smile stays lovely and straight! Vivera Retainers – FAQ Did you know that retainers don’t last forever? An average lifespan of a retainer is around 12-18 months. In time, the plastic distorts, thanks to the heat of your mouth, and so your retainers need to be replaced regularly, to ensure they still fit snugly, locking your teeth in position. Did you know that a good fitting retainer should fit very snugly, and have no visible gaps? If you can see a clear gap then your retainer isn’t fitting properly, and could even be pushing your teeth back into the wrong position, and could also damage the enamel of your teeth. Did you know that we’ve invested in the latest technology at the practice, meaning that we can make... --- Invisalign Patient Testimonials Before Invisalign I did not like the gap in my teeth. Your general health depends a lot on having a balanced diet. Your drinking and eating habits affect your mouth so it is important to try and have a healthy diet so that you can look after your teeth. Dental plaque is a soft sticky substance that builds up on your teeth. It is mostly made up of bacteria, which feed on sugar from food and drink, providing acids as a waste product. The acid dissolves the teeth surface by attacking it. Tooth decay occurs when this happens too often. After an acid attack, teeth can repair themselves, given the opportunity. It helps if fluoride (a mineral that is an ingredient in most toothpaste) is present in the mouth. This is why it is important to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Sometimes it can be hard to change your diet if you are in the habit of eating certain foods but there are lots of alternatives that you can eat that have less sugar or acid. What should I eat? What are some healthy alternatives? It is recommended that you eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables per day. It is also important to check the labels of any packets and to try aim for foods that are low in sugar. Some sugary foods and their healthier alternatives for your teeth are: Swap sugar coated cereals for wholegrain cereals such as weetabix with fresh fruit Swap crisps for... --- Gum Disease What is Gum Disease? The simplest form of gum disease is called gingivitis. Gingivitis is a reaction to a build up of plaque on the teeth. Plaque is a soft, sticky substance made up of bacteria, which live on the sugars from things we eat and drink. If plaque has been present for a while, it hardens and is called tartar or calculus. Although plaque can easily be removed with a toothbrush, once it has hardened on to the teeth as tartar/calculus, it has to be professionally removed from your teeth by one of our dental therapists. As the gum disease progresses, the tissues, like the gum and the bone which hold teeth in place, start to break down and cause pockets to form in the gum around the teeth, which then allows even more plaque to gather. This stage of gum disease is called chronic periodontitis. It is usually painless and can become quite severe if not treated, resulting in teeth becoming loose, moving position or even falling out. Signs and Symptoms of Periodontal (Gum) Disease Bleeding, red or swollen gums Gums that have come away from the teeth Pus between the teeth and gums Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth Teeth becoming loose or changing position Who Can Get Periodontal (Gum) Disease? Gum disease can start when you are a child, but chronic periodontitis is normally only a problem in adults. Some people are more likely to have gum disease than others: People... --- Bad Breath Bad breath is also known as Halitosis and is a common thing with most people. Saliva contains enzymes which help to break down your food and help you swallow. It also acts as a cleanser, constantly washing around your mouth and teeth, helping to keep your teeth clean and fight decay. Dry mouth is a condition which affects the flow of saliva, causing your mouth to feel dry. Signs and Symptoms ▪ Dry mouth ▪ Thick and sticky saliva, making it difficult to speak or swallow ▪ ‘prickly’ or burning sensation in the mouth ▪ Mouth adopting a red and shiny appearance ▪ Soreness, and sensitivity to certain foods What Can Cause It? ▪ Side effect of certain medications, especially heart, blood pressure and depression tablets ▪ Medical treatment, such as radiotherapy or surgery to the head and neck ▪ Medical conditions, such as diabetes, lupus and Sjogren’s Syndrome ▪ Women who have had their menopause and are taking HRT What Can My Dentist Do To Help? Saliva is very important in the fight against tooth decay. It contains a number of ingredients which help to fight the bacteria that form dental plaque and cause decay and gum disease. Having less saliva can also affect the taste of food and makes eating drier foods difficult. Sometimes it can affect speech and make people more likely to have bad breath. Unfortunately there seems to be no way of actually preventing the problem. There are a number of products designed to... --- Mouth Cancer We check for oral cancer at your examination appointment. Oral cancer can be found on several parts of the mouth including the lips, surface of the tongue, the roof of the mouth, the lips, the salivary gland, the tonsils and the gums. Oral cancer has symptoms but sometimes can go unnoticed which is why it is important to attend regularly for check ups, even if you have no teeth or dentures, as we can check your mouth and if we see anything we can act as fast as possible. We recommend that you visit us every six months for your routine dental examination, at this visit we will check your mouth, you will notice that your Dentist will feel your neck as part of this examination. If we do see something we will send a referral through to Aberdeen where they will be able to see if it something to be concerned about. Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world. It is important to look after your mouth by brushing... --- TMJ Problems What is your TMJ? Your TMJ is short for ‘Temporomandibular Joint’. This is the joint between your upper and lower jaw just in front of your ears. The jaw joints can occasionally cause problems, your Dentist can help treat and diagnose. If you are having problems with your TMJ give us a call on 01466 794089. What are the main causes of TMJ problems? There are a few different things that can cause TMJ problems such as gum chewing, arthritis, stress, teeth grinding, poor posture, teeth clenching, misalignment of the jaw or teeth and injury to the jaw or teeth. There are things that can be done to try and get you out of the discomfort of a TMJ problem. What are the symptoms of a TMJ problem? Symptoms of a problem with your temporomandibular joint are: - Pain in your ear, possibly with ringing noises - Pain in neck, face and chewing muscles - Difficulty closing or opening your mouth - Clicking or grafting noises when you move your jaw - Swelling or tenderness over the joint -Migraines or headaches (especially first thing in the morning) What can be done to help? Painkillers and sedatives can relieve symptoms in the short term. Other solutions can be to use relaxation and stress relieving techniques, giving up the habits that have worsen the condition and by wearing a guard at night to stop grinding your teeth in your sleep. We can make these at the practice. Clicking or grafting... --- Tooth Erosion What is it? Acids in the mouth can dissolve away tooth surfaces. Given the chance, teeth will repair themselves using minerals from saliva. If acid is in the mouth too often, teeth cannot repair themselves and the hard tooth surface (the enamel) becomes thinner. This is called ‘erosion’. The teeth can then become extra sensitive to hot and cold food and drink. Eroded teeth can also be more likely to suffer decay. What Are The Causes? The main cause of erosion is too frequent consumption of certain kinds of food and drink. All fizzy drinks (including ‘diet’ brands and fizzy mineral water), all ‘sports’ drinks, all squashes and all fruit juices are acidic to varying degrees. Pickles and citrus fruits are examples of acidic types of food. Some medicines are acidic and, therefore, erosive. People with some illnesses (such as eating disorders) may suffer from erosion because of frequent vomiting, as stomach acids also erode teeth. For this reason, dentists may ask about eating disorders if they see teeth that are very badly eroded. How Do I Prevent Erosion? Don’t have acidic food or drink too often during the day. Try to have them only at meal-times. Drink acidic drinks quickly – don’t sip them, and don’t swish them round your mouth. Between meals, you should only have ‘safe’ drinks, which are not sugary or acidic. Milk, water, tea and coffee (so long as no sugar is added) are all examples of ‘safe’ drinks. Avoid snacking between meals.... --- Silver Fillings Silver Fillings (Amalgam) If you tooth has dental decay then we can treat the hole by placing a filling. We can either place a silver or a white filling. A silver filling is called an amalgam filling and a white filling is called a composite filling. It is important to treat dental decay as soon as it is spotted to avoid it getting worst. Even if the hole isn’t giving you pain or you can’t notice it, it is important to treat it as if you catch it early you can place a filling where as if you let it get worst this is when more serious treatments are required such as extraction or root canal treatment. Amalgam fillings are an effective, long-lasting and safe filling material; they are a silver colour so this material isn’t used for front teeth. Amalgam is made from mercury, tin, copper and silver. The procedure of placing an Amalgam filling: The Dentist will clean out the tooth and prepare to be filled. The Dentist may use a ‘matrix band’ to keep the tooth structure. The Dentist will put a liner onto the tooth to protect the nerve. The Nurse will cure the liner to set it. The Amalgam is then packed into the tooth and the band is removed whilst the Dentist shapes the filling. It takes 24 hours for the Amalgam to set so we recommend that you eat on the opposite side of the mouth after having a silver filling... --- White Fillings If you tooth has dental decay then we can treat the hole by placing a filling. Composite is a tooth coloured material used to fill teeth, composite is made from a plastic and ceramic compound. The NHS will provide composite fillings for your front teeth but you would need to pay privately for a composite filling on a back tooth. The Dentist will discuss all costs with you at your appointment to ensure that you know how much each filling costs and what your options are. The procedure of placing a composite filling: The Dentist will clean out your tooth. The Dentist will then ‘etch’ your tooth, ‘etch’ is phosphoric acid and comes in a blue gel. We then wash the ‘etch’ off your tooth (the Nurse will catch the water and etch with her aspirator). The Dentist will then ‘bond’ your tooth and cure it with a light. The... --- Extractions What is an extraction? An extraction is the removal of a tooth. A tooth which is loose due to severe gum disease, damaged or very decayed due to caries may have to be taken out of your mouth (extracted). Wisdom teeth sometimes have to be extracted if they have erupted at an awkward angle and are causing problems. Extractions are also sometimes required for orthodontic treatment if the teeth are crowded. By removing teeth this will allow for the other teeth to be moved to come into alignment. What will my Dentist do? Before the dentist extracts your tooth they will give you an injection of local anaesthetic to numb the tooth. Some teeth are easier to take out than others. While the tooth is being taken out it is normal that you may hear some noises and feel some pressure but you should feel no pain. We will also send you a copy of these instructions via email. After you have had the extraction it is important to rest for... --- Veneers What is a veneer? Veneers are usually made out of porcelain by a Dental Technician. You will need to visit us more than once to have a veneer made, it requires impressions being taken and it being sent off to the Technician to make. A veneer is a thin layer of tooth coloured material that is put onto the front of the tooth to make it look better. You may wish to get a veneer if your tooth has been damaged by an accident or decay or you may just have a badly coloured tooth for some reason. What are the benefits of a veneer? Veneers hide imperfections and greatly improve your appearance. You lose very little natural tooth in the process of getting a veneer. What will my Dentist do? The Dentist will: Check any fillings in the teeth first A very small amount of natural tooth material needs to be removed (just enough to prevent the veneer making the tooth look or feel bulky) The Dentist will need to use a putty like material to make a mould of your mouth. The moulds are then sent to a dental technician so they can make the veneer. Two weeks are left between the first appointment and getting the veneer fitted. At the second appointment the veneer will get glued to your tooth. Book an appointment Testimonials Our TeamWho We Are Join Our Team   --- Root Canal Treatment What is root canal treatment? Root canal treatment is where your Dentist cleans away the infected pump from the root cancel of your tooth and fills it up to prevent further infection. The roots of your teeth contain root canal with a blood and nerve supply called the pulp, which can become infected, usually due to tooth decay. In the early stages of infection, your tooth might not feel painful, but as the tooth becomes more infected, an abscess can form. The symptoms of an abscess can vary from a dull ache to a severe throbbing pain, and your tooth will probably feel tender when you bite down. What will my Dentist do? Most courses of root canal treatment require two visits to the Dentist. Root canal should not be painful and if it does feel sore then you should let your Dentist know immediately so they can stop and make you feel more comfortable. At the first visit your Dentist will: Take an x-ray to make sure the tooth is able to be root treated Numb around the infected tooth with a local anaesthetic Remove the tooth decay and any old filling material and gain access into the root canal. This feels just like having a filling done and should not be painful. Remove the infected pulp from the root canal using a tiny file Wash out the infection and place an antibiotic cream into the root canal Seal the tooth with a temporary filling and... --- Fissure Sealant What is a fissure sealant? Fissure sealing is a simple preventative procedure carried out by our dentists and hygienists and is a painless way of protecting your children's teeth from decay. Pits and fissures are grooves on the occlusal (biting) surface of the pre-molars and molars and are areas prone to cavities as they are difficult to keep clean and are a common food packing area. As the first permanent molars start to erupt at around 6 or 7 years of age these teeth are likely to form cavities if left untreated. Treatment The treatment is usually quick and straightforward and only takes a few minutes per tooth. The tooth is thoroughly cleaned, prepared with a special solution and dried. The liquid sealant is then applied to the tooth and is set using a curing light. Sealants are invisible once applied and usually last for many years but your dentist will check them regularly to make sure the seal is still intact. Aftercare As the sealant is light cured your child can eat and drink as normal after treatment. The smooth sealed surface is now much easier to keep clean and healthy with normal tooth brushing and also using a fluoride toothpaste. What happens at my appointment? At your examination appointment your dentist will advise you whether you need 1 or a 2 part hygiene visit and whether we recommend you should come every 3 months or 6 months to see the therapist. We offer all hygiene appointments as an NHS fee and for a full list of costs, please see our treatment price list here. When you come in for your hygiene appointment the therapist will check your gums by gently pressing around each tooth. This is called a basic periodontal examination. This shows how healthy your gums are; they are scored from 0 to 4 with 0 being the best. The therapist will check the pocket depth of your gums and to check if your gums are unhealthy or bleeding. Once this is recorded the therapist will use either the ultrasonic scaler or the hand instruments to clean your teeth. The ultrasonic scaler is best to use as it gives a more thorough clean but if you have sensitive teeth then you can request for the hand instruments to be used which are more gentle. You can also see our sensitivity page for advice on sensitivity. The therapists use the scalers to remove plaque and calculus build up. After the therapist has given your teeth and gums a scale she... --- Sensitivity Sensitivity is a common issue, one in eight adults suffer with sensitivity! Sensitivity is caused by gum recession where the gum has receded and now the roots of the teeth are exposed. Recession often occurs because patients are brushing their teeth incorrectly as brushing too hard leads to gum recession. Sensitivity can also be caused by having weakened enamel, this happens when your diet is full of sugars and acids. The sugars and acids attack your teeth’s enamel causing them to be less strong and cause the nerve endings to be exposed. How can I help sensitivity? Your dentist and therapist will recommend that you use a sensitive toothpaste such as Colgate sensitive or one from the Sensodyne range. The toothpastes contain potassium citrate which help to sooth the nerve endings which provides relief from the sensitivity. After approximately 3 weeks of using a sensitive toothpaste you will notice a difference as a protective layer will build up. We recommend that you keep using the same type of toothpaste as each brand works in slightly different ways. We also recommend that you get an electric toothbrush that has a pressure sensor on it as this will tell you when you are brushing your gums too hard which will help prevent recession. For quick relief we also suggest that you get a blob of toothpaste onto your finger and rub it onto the affected area, make sure not to rinse after doing this as the toothpaste you have just put... --- Smoking Cessation Advice What does smoking do to you? The crown of a tooth is the part that is visible in your mouth. An artificial crown is used to protect a broken, weakened or heavily filled tooth. They can also be used to improve the appearance of discoloured or crooked teeth. Crowns can be made of many different materials, such as metals or ceramics. What Will My Dentist Do? The dentist will shape your tooth so that when the artificial crown is fitted over the top, it will be the same shape and size of a normal tooth. The time taken to prepare your tooth for a crown will depend on how damaged the tooth is. If the tooth has died, or there isn’t enough left to support a crown, it may have to be root-filled first. The crown is sometimes held in place by a peg or “post” if a lot of natural tooth structure is missing. Your dentist will need to take a mould of your mouth to get an exact impression of the tooth, so that the crown can be made accurately. A temporary crown made of plastic is placed over the top of your tooth until the crown is made. You can chew on a temporary crown, but it won’t be as strong as the finished one, and can easily pick up food stains and become discoloured. When your crown is fitted at your next visit, your dentist will check to make sure you can bite comfortably, and make any changes... --- Bridges What Are They? A bridge fixes a replacement tooth (or teeth) to your natural teeth on either side of the gap. There are many different types - some bridges have crowns at each end and others can be fixed to the surface of the tooth next to the gap. A bridge can sometimes only be fixed to the tooth one side of a gap, not both. Bridges can be made of metal and porcelain, or sometimes just porcelain. What Will My Dentist Do? There are several stages in making a bridge. Your dentist will take a mould of your mouth so that a Dental Technician can make exact plaster models of your upper and lower teeth and gums. This helps them see how your teeth bite together. The teeth that will be supporting the bridge are then prepared to take the fixings and make sure that the bridge will not be too bulky. Another mould is taken at this point of the prepared teeth. This is the mould the technician will use to make the bridge. A plastic temporary bridge or crown may be fitted at this point, to protect your teeth until the permanent bridge is ready. This normally takes around 2 weeks. At your second visit, your dentist will check and make sure the bridge fits well, and looks good before it is fixed permanently into place. They will check to make sure your teeth bite together well, and any adjustments will be made. You can use a timer to make sure you do it for long enough! Use a gentle circular motion. Don't scrub! Until at least the age of 7, you should brush your child's teeth for them. Use a small headed, medium bristled toothbrush. We recommend you ideally use an Oral B Electric Toothbrush or the Colgate 360 manual toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes give a much better clean and have an inbuilt timer to help to make sure you clean for 2 minutes. Don't use a hard toothbrush as it can damage your gums! Use a toothpaste with at least 1000ppm fluoride. We recommend your whole family use Colgate Total Advanced Clean Toothpaste. If your teeth are prone to staining, we recommend you use Oral B Proexpert Toothpaste. Use a pea sized amount. After brushing, spit the toothpaste out but don't rinse your mouth. This lets the fluoride in the toothpaste soak on to the teeth to help protect them. If you have sensitive teeth, we advise that you use either Sensodyne Proenamel or Colgate Prorelief Toothpaste. The Sensodyne Proenamel range also contains a mouthwash which can be used after mealtimes to help relieve sensitivity. Don't use toothpaste or mouthwash on the brush as this may damage the bristles. You can reuse the TePe interdental brushes but discard the brush when the bristles are becoming bent or worn. Your dentist will recommend which colours of interdental brush you should use, and will demonstrate how to use them correctly. Dental Floss You can also use dental floss to clean between the teeth. Take about 45cm of dental floss and wrap the ends around your fingers until you have a 2cm section. Guide the floss between the teeth and use a gentle up and down motion to clean between the teeth. You may find the following advice helpful:... --- Teething Most babies start teething around about 6 months, but don't worry if your baby grows their teeth much earlier or later than this. Some babies will even be born with teeth (although this is very unusual and shouldn't interfere with breast feeding). The first teeth to come through are the bottom middle incisor teeth. The top front teeth (incisors) come through between 6-8 months. This is followed by the top & bottom second incisors between 9-12 months. The first set of back molars then appear between 12-16 months, leaving a space for the eye teeth (canines) to erupt at 16-20 months. The last ones to come through are the second set of back molar teeth which appear around the age of 2-2. 5 years. As you can see, the poor wee souls (and their parents! ) don't get much of a break between teeth coming through and we've found that the worst ones for causing pain seem to be the first incisors and back molars. So you could say that teething starts and ends with a bang! Teething symptoms If you're lucky, your babies teeth will grow through with no pain or discomfort at all. Usually though, you will notice that the gum looks sore, red, swollen and inflammed. One, or both of their cheeks might look a bit flushed and you will probably find they will dribble more. They will want to chew on anything and everything they can get their hands on, and you may even hear... --- Childsmile The Deveron Dental Centre is committed to promoting good oral health. Our practice is a base for the Childsmile team, which is a national programme designed to improve children's oral health. We recommend that you register your child at the practice as soon as they are born, to ensure we can provide you, and them, with preventative dental care from birth. It also helps to get your child used to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental surgery. Our dental nurses, Kirsty, Natalie, Michelle, Chloe, Agata and Kelly run the Childsmile scheme within our practice. They promotes good oral health to our patients, from birth to 6 years, particularly amongst people living in high priority areas. Parents of new born children who are assessed to be at risk of developing tooth decay are referred to the programme by their Health Visitor. These families are given advice as well as free toothbrushes, toothpaste and drinking cups. After attending the dentist for an examination, we will arrange for your child to see one of the Childsmile nurses. They will show both yourself and your child how to brush their teeth correctly and she will discuss the importance of a good diet and toothbrushing with them. We have found the Childsmile programme to be extremely effective at reducing levels of tooth decay. Older children are provided with additional preventive care such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealants. Book an appointment Testimonials Opening Hours Monday: 8:15 - 18:00 Tuesday: 8:15 - 18:00... --- Fluoride Varnish The Childsmile programme, recommends that we paint your child's teeth, at least every 6 months, with a fluoride varnish called Duraphat, from the age of 2 until they are around 10 years old. The fluoride varnish provides extra protection against tooth decay when used in addition to brushing with a fluoride toothpaste. The fluoride varnish is a golden gel that sets quickly when applied to your child's teeth using a soft brush. It sets quickly and tastes of bananas. You will be given an instruction leaflet on the day which will explain more about the varnish. Research has shown that this fluoride varnish is extremely effective at reducing dental decay if it is applied at least twice a year. Your child may also be offered this varnish at school or nursery and these additional applications will give additional protection to your child's teeth. You should let your dental practice know if the fluoride varnish has recently been applied at nursery or school. Some children will not have fluoride varnish applied because they have previously been hospitalised due to asthma or allergies. If this is true for your child, a full individual risk assessment will be carried out by your dentist and a decision taken on whether it is clinically appropriate for fluoride varnish to be applied. Are there any risks? Children who consume too much fluoride can develop white spots on their teeth. This is not tooth decay. This will help your mouth to heal as quickly as possible and prevent infection. Taking anticoagulant drugs (eg Aspirin or Warfarin) can make it more difficult for your blood to clot. If you are taking anticoagulants, it is especially important you look after the blood clot that forms after having your tooth removed, so you do not start bleeding again. Rest for 2-3 hours after the extraction, while the anaesthetic wears off and the blood clot forms. Avoid rinsing your mouth out for the first 24 hours If you rinse your mouth you will wash away the blood clot and you may start bleeding again. Avoid sucking hard or disturbing the clot with your tongue Eat on the opposite side to avoid disturbing the blood clot. Avoid hot food & drinks, spicy foods and hard or chewy foods. Allow your food to cool down before eating. Keep your mouth as clean as possible. Starting the day after the extraction, gently rinse your mouth after every meal with hot salt mouthwashes (1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water). The heat will soothe your mouth and the salt will help your mouth to heal much faster. We also advise that you use Corsodyl mouthwash, twice a day for ten days after the extraction to help stop infection from forming. You can buy Corsodyl mouthwash at our reception. Brush your other teeth twice a day as normal taking care to... --- Welcome to the team Joanna! Joanna is one of our lovely Dentist’s at the Deveron Dental Centre who joined us in August. To try and keep our practice running, we are a part of the Scottish Vocational Training Programme, which means we mentor new graduates through their first year in practice, and it also means that we can guarantee that we will have dentists working at the practice. This year, we have Sophie and Tanya working with us, and they have been enjoying their time at the Deveron Dental Centre so much, that they have both agreed to stay on at the practice on a permanent basis at the end of their training year. The team is just delighted with this news, and I’m sure our patients will be too. Having them both here, along with Diane, who has been with us now for 5 years will be an enormous help to us, and it’ll hopefully mean we can start reducing waiting times again for appointments. Why choose airflow? Uses a jet of air, warm water and a fine powder to clean the teeth Machine warms the water to 40°C so extremely gentle, even on very sensitive teeth More effective at removing staining & discolouration to give a brighter whiter smile Thoroughly cleans down into deep pockets where traditional scalers struggle to reach Removes almost all of the biofilm (plaque/bacteria). Traditional S&P removes around 50% Improves gum disease so improves general health – gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes and stroke Includes a complimentary fluoride application to prevent decay Gives ultraclean, ultra healthy teeth! It uses start of the art technology To book an airflow appointment call us on 01466 794089 or email us info@deverondentalcentre. com, if you have a scale appointment in the diary then we can change it to airflow very easily! --- New Dentist scrubs! Why not take our Invisalign Online Smile Visualiser to see if Invisalign is suitable for you? https://www. invisalign. co. uk/Smile-View#search This patient came to our practice because he wanted to straighten his squint top teeth and also to fix the missing chips. Our plan was to use Invisalign to straighten the teeth, and we also moved the bottom teeth down (intruded them), as he had a very deep bite. You can see from the before and after photos that once the bottom teeth were intruded, his smile looks whiter as less of his gums are showing. This Invisalign transformation took just 9 months to complete and at the end we restored the missing chips from his upper teeth with composite bonding. We colour matched the composite filling very carefully to his teeth so the result looks extremely natural. He was just delighted with the change in his smile! The observations are done virtually. We ask the patients that are booked into the diary for their permission to have the tutor to observe the treatment being carried out. The observations are just to allow the tutor to see how well the girls are getting on and making sure their work is at a high standard. The girls are getting on really well with their training so far. --- We have a new Smile Visualiser poster located at the front desk of the practice. Above is a wee video that shows you how to use it. You can also do it from the comfort of your own home by clicking on the below link: https://www. invisalign. co. uk/SV/910042#search --- It is really important to visit the dentist regularly whether you have teeth or a full set of dentures. The reason for visiting the dentist is to make sure your soft tissue, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and lymph nodes are all healthy and to make sure your teeth don’t have any holes in them. At your routine check-up appointment, the dentist looks at all these areas along with taking routine bitewing x-rays every couple of years. Bitewings are important as it allows the dentist the see in between the teeth and monitor bone levels. When you come in for your routinely check-up appointment you may be advised to see the Dental Therapist as well. --- HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL OUR LOVELY PATIENTS --- At the practice we offer tooth whitening to our patients. Tooth whitening is a private treatment that you do at home in your own time. The tooth whitening procedure is done over 2 visits to the practice – the 1st visit you would get impression taken to get sent to the lab to get the whitening trays made and the 2nd visit would be to make sure the trays fit and give you the whitening bleach to do at home. For the whitening procedure you would brush your teeth as normal and floss as normal then you would put a lentil size drop of the bleach into each tooth section of the tray and put the top and bottom trays into your mouth. Try to avoid putting to much bleach into the trays as it will cause trauma to the gum. You would wear the trays for no more than 2 hours a day for at least 2 weeks to see the best results and you can top up the whitening every few months or before a special occasion/event. Once the 2 hours had passed you would remove the whitening trays & wash them with soap and cold water. You would brush your teeth again afterwards to wash away any remaining bleach product. If you are interested please call the practice on 01466 794089. --- Interdental Cleaning Brushing your teeth 2x daily only cleans 80% of the surfaces of the teeth therefore it is important to floss or use an interdental cleaning aid at least 1x daily to clean the plaque in between the teeth. Plaque is a soft sticky substance that builds up on your teeth over a period of time and calcifies into tartar if it is not cleaned off effectively. Plaque is mostly made up of bacteria, which feeds on the sugars from the food and drink consumed throughout the day. Therefore, it is important to clean this off as soon as possible to avoid decay. There are many different products to use for interdental cleaning such as floss, floss tape, superfloss, varies different sizes of tepe brushes and a water flosser. We stock all the above products at the practice except for the water flosser. --- If you are due your exam then give us a call on 01466 794089 and we can arrange one for you. --- Interdental Cleaning It is super important that we use something to clean in between our teeth.
