At the practice we have four dentists for you to choose from; Morven the practice owner, Nerina, Aoife and Claire. To find out more about each dentist visit the who we are page. Routine examinations are free for all NHS patients and we recommend that you come to visit us once every 6 months.
What happens at my appointment?
When you come in for your exam appointment the girls at the front desk will give you a clinipad with your forms ready to be filled in. Once you have finished your clinipad your dental nurse will call your name to take you through to see the dentist. The dentist will ask you to take a seat and to put on our safety glasses- the light can be quite bright!
During your appointment your dentist will conduct a complimentary 7 point treatment check:
- Temperomandibular Joint for signs of wear and tear
- Lymph Nodes in the neck for any unusual lumps or bumps
- Soft tissues of the mouth for any signs of mouth cancer
- The gums for any sign of periodontal (gum) disease
- Teeth and existing fillings to ensure there is no tooth decay
- The bite to ensure this feels comfortable for chewing
- The x-rays for signs of any hidden dental problems
At your examination appointment you can ask the dentist any questions you may have.
If you have no teeth and have a full set of dentures it is still important that you come once a year to visit your dentist as they will still carry most of the checks above.
What forms do I need to do and why?
At every visit we will ask you to sign a GP17 form which ensures you stay registered with the practice and that lets us know whether you pay the NHS charges or not. We need to know this so that we can claim correctly from the NHS and that we don’t accidently charge you. If you are exempt from paying we ask if you could take in your proof of exemption at each visit.
Every 6 months we will ask you to check over your details to make sure that we have the correct address and contact details for you. We will also ask you to update your medical history; this is to ensure that we have a note of any medical conditions or any medication that you take. It is important that all of your information is correct and up to date in case of a medical emergency.
If you are a new patient at the practice, we will ask you to complete an oral health survey, a new patient questionnaire and to sign our terms and conditions. then you will have a couple of extra forms to fill out as well as the ones above which are the terms and conditions and an oral health survey. The oral health survey will give you the opportunity to tell us about concerns you may have about your mouth.
